Rep Doug Collins Moves to Defund Obama's Executive Amnesty

Congressman Doug Collins today introduced legislation to defund Obama's unilateral amnesty of 5 million or more illegal immigrants.

"After his drubbing in recent elections, Obama said he heard the public, but apparently, he didn't listen closely," said the Peach State Republican. "Almost immediately afterwards, he spurned American workers and our Constitution."

Rep. Collins' bill, the Immigration Accountability Act, his first of the 114th Congress, prohibits the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from using any fees to implement its Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, an executive order which the president -- without the consent of Congress -- dramatically expanded in November.

"Our lawless president is only encouraging more law-breaking," said Rep. Collins, a member of both the House Judiciary and Rules Committees.

Importantly, his bill goes further than many others under House consideration to counter Obama's overreach. The Immigration Accountability Act not only thwarts Obama's November executive actions but also his moves in 2012 to grant illegal immigrants amnesty.

Rep. Collins' bill directly targets the fee-collection structure -- operating outside Congress' normal appropriations process -- that DHS is using to finance amnesty.

The Northeast Georgia Congressman is negotiating with Republican colleagues to attach his Immigration Accountability Act to a final Homeland Security funding bill next week. "We're going to cut off this funding at its source," he said.
