Rep Doug Collins Advances Newborn Care for Female Vets

Today, Congressman Doug Collins (GA-09) re-introduced his Newborn Care Improvement Act, H.R. 423, to provide female veterans up to 14 days of newborn care at Veterans Administration facilities.

"We've spoken often in the last several years of updating policies to care for the medical needs of this generation of veterans," said the Iraq War veteran."With more women in the ranks than ever before, improving maternity care is the right thing to do."

"A new mother under VA care has given selflessly to her country," he said."She deserves her country's full support as she gives selflessly to her newborn child, especially if her child requires a little extra, expert care in the early days."

Rep. Collins' re-introduced bill would double the previous maximum limit of seven days of newborn care, under the 2010 Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act, and allow military families more time to seek public or private care for their continued maternity needs.
