U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) today announced that he has cosponsored S.126, legislation to provide Texans with a permanent deduction for state and local general sales taxes on their federal income tax returns.
"This is a matter of fundamental fairness for Texas taxpayers and one that puts them on a level playing field with taxpayers who can deduct their state income tax," said Sen. Cornyn. "As Texans continue to face higher health care costs under Obamacare, now more than ever they need relief from burdensome taxation so they can keep more of their hard-earned money."
Sen. Cornyn is an original cosponsor of S.126, which was introduced last week by Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV), and he has a long record of supporting the state and local sales tax deduction for Texans and working to make that deduction permanent. This deduction provides Texans with more than $1 billion in federal tax relief annually.
