McCaul Statement on FBI Arrest of Alleged ISIS Sympathizer for Plot to Attack U.S. Capitol

Today, U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on the FBI's arrest of an alleged ISIS sympathizer in Ohio for plotting to attack the U.S. Capitol:

Chairman McCaul: "I commend the hardworking agents at the FBI for making this arrest. In the wake of the attacks in Paris, this threat should set off alarm bells here in the United States and compel the Obama administration to not only act, but call the threat what it is: violent Islamist extremism. These terrorists are intent on attacking our country and are attempting to convince Americans at home to radicalize, embrace their perverse world view and commit acts of violence. The administration must urgently work to counter violent Islamist extremism in the United States.

"My committee has launched two full-blown investigations to address this challenge--one to examine what the administration is doing to combat domestic radicalization and the other to identify and fill gaps in our defenses in order to keep terrorists out of the United States."
