Griffin: "It Has Been an Honor' to Serve Arkansas's Second Congressional District

Statement

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement today, his final day serving as the Member of Congress for Arkansas's Second Congressional District:

"It has been an honor to serve the great people of Arkansas's Second Congressional District as your Member of Congress for four years, and I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to represent each and every one of you. Listening to the views and concerns of Arkansans in order to best represent you has always been my main focus, and I thank all of the hardworking individuals and families I heard from to help me accomplish that goal. Offering high quality constituent services was always a top priority for me, and my office maintained a record of serving Arkansans in this capacity. It was my privilege to:

· Answer 145,220 constituent letters;
· Correspond with 148,699 constituents;
· Help more than 3,620 Arkansans through casework; and
· Guide more than 1,094 Arkansans on US Capitol Tours.

"In 2011, I went to Washington to cut out-of-control spending, limit excessive and overly burdensome regulations, work toward comprehensive tax reform and repeal and replace Obamacare. In Congress, I worked with my House Republican colleagues to stop President Obama's harmful policies and communicate an alternative vision of common sense, conservative values and growth and opportunity for all. While there is still much work to be done, House Republicans were able to advocate for ideas and policies that will get our nation's fiscal house in order and help grow jobs in Arkansas and across our country.

"During the 112th and 113th Congresses, House Republicans reduced real spending two years in a row for the first time since the Korean War and passed the largest spending reduction in American history through the Budget Control Act (BCA) of 2011. During my time in Congress, I introduced legislation to cut wasteful government spending and save hardworking taxpayers' money; introduced legislation to rein in the Obama Administration's excessive and overly burdensome regulatory agenda and eliminate the regulatory uncertainty that job creators face; supported the Ways and Means Committee's efforts to reform our burdensome and complex tax code; worked hard to repeal, replace, and limit the harmful effects of Obamacare; and fought for legislation to honor and support our veterans and our servicemembers."

"To my friends and neighbors who call Arkansas's Second Congressional District home, I am humbled to have had the opportunity to represent you in Congress, and I thank you for this honor. May God continue to bless Arkansas and the United States of America."

Griffin will be sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas on January 13, 2015.

Congressman Tim Griffin was re-elected as the 24th representative of Arkansas's Second Congressional District on November 6, 2012. For the 113th Congress, he is a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means while also serving as a Deputy Whip for the majority. In the 112th Congress, he served as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Committee on the Judiciary.

Griffin is a graduate of Hendrix College in Conway and Tulane Law School in New Orleans, and attended graduate school at Oxford University. He has served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 18 years, was deployed to Iraq and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Political Affairs for President George W. Bush. Griffin lives in Little Rock with his wife Elizabeth and their two children.
