Duffy on President's Cuban Cave

Statement

U.S. Representative, Foreign Affairs Committee Member, Sean Duffy (WI-07) released the following comments after the White House announced change in policy toward U.S. -- Cuban relations:

"I am very glad for the safe return of Alan Gross, but he should have never been imprisoned in the first place and his release should not have been a part of a negotiation - it should have been unconditional. The President's lone wolf approach to diplomacy and continued negotiations for the release of terrorists and those that have killed U.S. citizens only emboldens people and governments who wish Americans harm.

"The President has once again extended his hand to a leader who raises a fist in return. He has offered a commitment to a significant shift in U.S. Policy without any guarantees that Cuba will follow suit. Just last week, 240 dissidents were arrested in Cuba during human right protests. It is clear that the Castro regime has no genuine interest in changing it's ways anytime soon."

"The big question here is, why does the President continue to negotiate from a position of weakness?"
