Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement in observance of World AIDS Day:
"As we observe World AIDS Day and remember the devastating toll HIV/AIDS has had on our communities and honor those who've lost their lives to the disease, I urge everyone to take this opportunity to learn the facts about HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and research.
According to the Florida Department of Health, "Miami-Dade County ranks #1 in the state of Florida for number of new HIV cases and AIDS cases and Broward County (Ft. Lauderdale) ranks #2 in the state of Florida for number of new HIV cases and AIDS cases.'
These grim and frightening statistics are a call to action to recommit ourselves and resources to combating this epidemic. We must remain united and relentless in our fight to increase awareness, prevention and in finding a cure.
I urge everyone to do his or her part to combat HIV/AIDS and to get tested."
