Cassidy, Palazzo: No Funding For President's Flood Risk Executive Order

Congressman Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Congressman Steven Palazzo (R-MS) sent a letter to the House Appropriations Committee requesting to withhold funding in the upcoming appropriations bill that would be used to issue a new Flood Risk Management Standard (FFRMS), or Presidential Executive Order to change the standard. They also requested any funding provided in previous appropriations bills not be used to implement this standard.

Previously, Dr. Cassidy urged President Obama to not implement an executive order to change the FFRMS. Congress has worked in a bipartisan manner to address flood risk issues, yet the President is currently moving forward on a plan without the input of Congress or the American people. Since changing the standard could have far-reaching economic consequences, there needs to be an opportunity to fully understand the standard, and allow Congress and the public to provide input on this decision.

Dr. Cassidy released the following statement:

"Louisiana families want their government to work together. If the President is going to act alone to change the flood risk standard by executive order, then Congress needs to keep the President from acting. Withholding funding for these actions is one way to do it. Louisiana families' opinions matter--my priority is making sure they are heard."
