U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte today released the following statement regarding reports that the Obama Administration may be considering sanctions against Israel:
"I am deeply disturbed by reports that the Administration could be contemplating sanctions against Israel. Any suggestion of sanctions against Israel by the United States is absurd.
"When the White House has disagreements with allies, those disagreements should be addressed privately and not be allowed to affect the broader relationship nor undermine critical cooperation on a broad range of issues. The mutual threats to our countries are too serious to do otherwise.
"Protecting the national security interests of the United States requires strategic and moral clarity and an ability to distinguish between friends and adversaries. We should not confuse Israel-our closest and most reliable ally in the Middle East-with an adversary that needs to be pressured or coerced."
