U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) will join Export-Import Bank Chairman Fred Hochberg on Friday in Nashua to tour Seaboard International Forest Products and meet with New Hampshire exporters. During the visit, Senator Ayotte will discuss her ongoing efforts to boost New Hampshire's small business exporters, including her support for the Export-Import Bank, which allows companies to obtain competitive financing to compete in the global marketplace and has helped support 28 New Hampshire businesses over the last five years.
"The Export-Import Bank helps small and medium sized businesses in New Hampshire compete in the global marketplace and create jobs, while returning billions of dollars to the Treasury for deficit reduction," said Senator Ayotte, a member of the Senate Commerce Committee. "Chairman Hochberg's visit is an important opportunity to discuss the successful partnership between the Ex-Im Bank and New Hampshire exporters who have been able to grow their businesses and create more jobs by exporting goods and services overseas."
"Our mission at the Export-Import Bank is to make sure companies like Seaboard International Forest Products and others across New Hampshire have the financing they need to compete for global sales on a level playing field," said Chairman Hochberg. "By filling private sector gaps so U.S. companies can reach new customers overseas, Ex-Im Bank equips businesses to grow their operations and support jobs in communities across America."
Seaboard International Forest Products, which is based in Nashua, is a commodity trading firm that distributes lumber and building materials for residential and commercial construction.
As the official export credit agency of the U.S., Ex-Im is charged with supporting American jobs through the financing of U.S. exports to international markets, primarily in circumstances where alternative private financing is not available. Ex-Im has supported over 1.3 million American jobs over the past six years, and the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has estimated that over the next ten years, Ex-Im activities will generate over $14 billion in savings for the federal budget between FY 2015 and 2024. In September, Congress approved legislation to reauthorize Ex-Im through June 2015. Ex-Im has helped New Hampshire companies export $375 million in goods and services since 2007.
