U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today released the following statement regarding the House passage of H.R. 5759 the Executive Amnesty Prevention Act:

"This bill simply confirms something President Obama himself said: the President of the United States does not have the constitutional authority to unilaterally grant blanket amnesty to millions of people. The Constitution gives Congress the exclusive power to write the law and requires that the President faithfully execute the law as written. If the President wants to reform our immigration system, he should engage the American people through their elected representatives and follow the constitutional lawmaking process. Unilateral executive amnesty that circumvents this process is unwise and unconstitutional. By working within the boundaries of the Constitution, we can ultimately achieve more for the American people."
