Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement on the President's Immigration Accountability Executive Actions:

"Tonight President Obama announced he will use his legal authority to take executive action to further secure the border and hold nearly 5 million undocumented immigrants accountable. This plan will prioritize deporting felons over families -- but it's only a temporary first step. Congress must build on the bipartisan work in the Senate and finally pass comprehensive immigration reform. The people's House has been waiting over 500 days for a vote on that bill, and the only thing standing in the way of democracy working its will is Speaker Boehner. As a result, the President must take this common sense step to start to fix our broken immigration system. I hope our Republican colleagues will work with us to allow Congress to act, instead of threatening a destructive government shut down."
