Congressman-Elect Aguilar's Statement on President Obama's Executive Action on Immigration Policy

Today, Congressman-elect Pete Aguilar (CA-31) released the following statement following President Obama's announcement of executive action to reform U.S. immigration policy:

"To truly fix our broken immigration system and put our country on a path forward, Congress must pass comprehensive immigration reform. The U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan bill five hundred days ago that does just that, and it is disappointing that members of the House have refused to act on similar legislation.

"Immigration reform is the right thing to do for the nation's economy, national security and families. The President's proposals are a step in the right direction, and I applaud him for taking action when Congress has failed to do so. However, executive action falls short of what this issue demands.

"As a new Congress convenes this January, we have a responsibility to put politics aside and act on comprehensive immigration reform. By working across the aisle, we can pass a comprehensive bill that reforms our broken immigration system long-term."

Pete Aguilar is a small business owner, the Mayor of Redlands and the newly elected representative for California's 31st Congressional District. He is a strong advocate for economic growth and fairness in the Inland Empire, a leader who has reached across party lines to serve the best interests of middle-class families in San Bernardino County.
