During House Republicans' organizational meeting, U.S. Representative Sean Duffy (WI-07) led the charge against reinstating earmarks. He spoke against an Amendment that would have brought back the controversial spending mechanism. The Amendment failed by an overwhelming margin. Rep. Duffy offered the following comments after the vote:
"I came to Washington to reform the way our government works. Today, I continued my fight to respect the taxpayer dollar and protect our children's futures. I again spoke against earmarks, just as I did in 2010 when, in my first act as the Representative of Wisconsin's 7th District, I introduced a ban on earmarks that was adopted by both House and Senate Republicans.
"I am pleased that my Republican colleagues have, once again, taken a stand for fiscal responsibility. Together we will work on policies that will bring down our debt and ensure a more prosperous future for our kids and grandkids."
