Senate Democrats Take Cassidy Advice, Issue Concern on Ozone Standards

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy (R-LA) responded to a letter sent by Senators Landrieu, Donnelly, Manchin and Heitkamp regarding the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for ozone. On October 6, 2014, Dr. Cassidy and Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) urged Senator Mary Landrieu, Chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, to push back on the standards that will cause harm to Louisiana's energy and manufacturing industries.

Dr. Cassidy offered the following statement:

"Louisiana's energy and manufacturing industries are threatened by the Obama Administration's billion dollar regulations. Despite Senator Landrieu's support for President Obama's nominees who put these harmful energy regulations in place, I urged Senator Landrieu more than 30 days ago to use her position as Chair of the Senate Energy Committee to push back on these policies. These policies are hurting Louisiana jobs. Our focus should be on creating and preserving jobs."

Recently, Dr. Cassidy joined Senator David Vitter at three Senate Environmental and Public Works (EPW) committee field briefings in Louisiana. The briefings focused on the potential impacts of proposed EPA ozone regulations. Specifically discussed in New Orleans was the EPA's proposed "Waters of the United States Rule" and how it could harm Louisiana families, farmers and infrastructure projects.
