Letter

Location: Washington, DC

As the U.S. Representative for Illinois' 11th Congressional District, I was excited to learn that Amazon plans to locate its new facilities in Illinois. I urge you to consider the 11th District, which stretches from Chicago's western suburbs to two of Illinois' largest cities, Aurora and Joliet, and is comprised of parts of Will, DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Cook Counties.

With its prime Chicagoland location, the 11th District also boasts easy access to the regional transportation system, including access to major interstates, convenient proximity to O'Hare and Midway International Airports, and access to an extensive rail freight system. Will County is also home to the largest inland container port in North America, and three intermodal yards. The port is already home to major distribution centers for a number of large employers, including Home Depot, Georgia Pacific, Solo Cup, Wal-Mart, Bissell, Dollar Tree, and Michaels Stores.

This region also offers a ready and educated workforce. Both DuPage and Will Counties are served by extremely active economic development entities that have strong relationships with the local workforce boards. I have personally worked with both entities, Choose DuPage and the Will County Center for Economic Development, and can attest to their dedication in working with employers to ensure their needs are well served. The 11th District is also home to strong educational institutions. In addition to highly ranked K-12 schools, DuPage and Will Counties contain more than 25 colleges and universities.

As a businessman who started a manufacturing company that now provides hundreds of good-paying jobs here in the Midwest, I understand some of the challenges that a company faces when deciding where to locate its facilities. The 11th Congressional District has many attractive qualities, including great quality of life, a lower cost of living than the City of Chicago, a ready and educated workforce, active local Chambers of Commerce, and a strong educational system. I would be happy to meet with you to answer any questions you may have.
