I recently sent an email update on how we must continually appreciate our veterans, not just on Veterans Day.

Earlier this week, I was proud to join with local families from all over the district, from Folsom to Elk Grove, to celebrate Veterans Day.

It was a privilege to recognize the men and women in our area who have served our great nation, but honoring our veterans can't begin and end on Veterans Day.

As a doctor who has helped care for veterans, I've seen first-hand how much they've sacrificed for us. We simply must do a better job of ensuring our vets have the support services and opportunities they've earned. Our veterans deserve nothing less than our unwavering support.

That's why my local office is ready to do all we can to help Sacramento County's veterans. We're here to help local vets with backlogged benefits, health care issues, and more. We've now helped area vets recover more than $1 million in backlogged benefits and services. We'd be honored to serve you too.

Fighting for our veterans has been a major priority of mine in Congress. I've been working to fix problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) since my first month in office.

I was deeply troubled by reports that some veterans may have died while waiting for medical care at VA hospitals, and the benefits backlog at the VA is a national disgrace. It's also inexcusable that far too many veterans are out of work and homeless.

That's why I introduced and helped pass the bipartisan Health Care for Heroes Act to streamline veteran's health records and reduce the VA backlog. I've also consistently supported funding for veterans health care and services, and am supporting legislation to help our heroes find work and transition to civilian life.

Congress should be a place for service, not career politicians who are in it for themselves. As always, please feel free to call or write or share your thoughts.

Be well,
