Senator Zeldin's Fight to Assist Long Island's Businesses and Economy

Senator Lee Zeldin, Republican and Conservative Party candidate for Congress in New York's First Congressional District, released the following statement:

"One of the most serious issues that Long Island faces is the loss of good paying private sector jobs. Families here on Long Island are really struggling. People are working two or three jobs just to make ends meet. The side effects of the recession are still seen and felt by most Long Island families.

In 2011, my opponent said Long Island needs "an environment in which businesses can prosper," (Excerpt from Newsday, 10/21/2011) but he has not delivered. Time and again, he has missed out on countless opportunities to advocate for reforms to law and regulation that would reduce the cost to do business.

Our next Congressman must improve the effort to help create good paying private sector jobs, lower energy costs, eliminate costly mandates, simplify our complex tax code, reduce burdensome tax rates and job killing laws and regulations, like Obamacare, and cut wasteful government spending to lower our nation's deficits. That is exactly what I plan to do once elected."

Senator Zeldin has a proven legislative record of fighting to grow our economy and create good paying private sector jobs. Some of his accomplishments include successfully repealing the MTA Payroll Tax for 80% of employers, introducing legislation to protect employers from organized retail crime, and reducing the Corporate Income Tax Rate and 18-a energy assessment surcharge.

Senator Zeldin has been recognized for his pro-business record. He received the "Guardian of Small Business Award" and was named one of the top two pro-business Senators in New York State by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), receiving the top score of 91% out of 100. In comparison, his opponent, Congressman Tim Bishop, has a lifetime pro-business voting record of 21% from NFIB.

The Business Council of New York gave Senator Zeldin a top pro-business rating of 93% out of 100 for the combined 2013 and 2014 legislative session.

The NFIB, the Business-Industry Political Action Committee (BIPAC) and the U.S Chamber of Commerce, have all officially endorsed Senator Zeldin's campaign for Congress.
