Fairfield Daily Republic Endorses Garamendi for Congress

Press Release

Date: Nov. 3, 2014
Location: Fairfield, CA
Issues: Defense Veterans

Emphasizing Congressman John Garamendi's commitment to and extensive work on behalf of veterans and the missions at Travis Air Force Base, the Fairfield Daily Republic today endorsed Garamendi for reelection. Fairfield is the largest city in the 3rd Congressional District.

The Daily Republic wrote:

"Garamendi has worked hard on behalf of Travis Air Force Base and by extension, on behalf of the rest of us. He pushed legislation in March to require that the KC-10 mission remain in place at least until the first batch of KC-46A aircraft are delivered to the Air Force. He's met with his peers on the House and Senate Armed Services committees to ensure that the Fairfield base and its mission is not harmed by the 2015 fiscal year National Defense Authorization Act. He co-chairs a caucus whose mission in large part is to protect the base and its air mobility mission. He keeps in contact with the head of Air Mobility Command, Gen. Darren W. McDew, to keep abreast of the latest developments within Air Mobility Command.

"The congressman is also working hard for our local veterans. To that end, he has hired the immensely popular retired Chief Master Sgt. John Evalle, who just ended his Air Force career at the Fairfield base.

We do not always agree with Garamendi's politics, but we do not doubt his commitment to preserving the mission at Travis Air Force Base. It's vital to Solano County that Garamendi's work continues."

"I'm honored to have the support of the Daily Republic in this election. They are an important voice keeping Solano County residents engaged and informed about happenings throughout the region," Garamendi said. "We share a strong commitment to Travis Air Force Base and the 3rd District's veterans, and I look forward to continuing this collaborative work in the next Congress."

In addition to the Daily Republic, Congressman Garamendi has earned the support of every newspaper that has endorsed in Solano, Yolo, and Sacramento counties, including the Sacramento Bee, Davis Enterprise, Vacaville Reporter, Woodland Daily Democrat, and Sacramento News and Review.

"The 3rd District's newspapers are united on the importance of keeping me in Congress, and that's a humbling experience," Garamendi added. "From helping veterans to stopping the twin tunnels, from Make It In America policies to climate change, they have different reasons for their support, but they are of one voice that I've earned another two years in Congress. My fantastic team of more than 200 grassroots volunteers is doing everything possible to make sure that 3rd District voters agree."
