Ayotte, Graham Statement on Sham Elections in Eastern Ukraine

U.S. Senators Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) today released the following statement regarding the illegal "elections" held by Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine on November 2:

"With Russian troops continuing to illegally operate in eastern Ukraine, while arming and training separatists there, Moscow's proxies in eastern Ukraine have now engineered a bogus November 2 election which Russia has eagerly supported.

"In response, the Obama administration is doubling down on its failed policy in Ukraine-issuing starkly worded condemnations and warnings while stubbornly refusing to provide Ukraine the weapons it desperately needs and has long-requested-including in President Poroshenko's address to a Joint Session of Congress in September.

"Putin remains unimpressed by the White House's statements and warnings, and clearly views the Obama administration's feckless response as a green light for additional aggression in Ukraine and perhaps elsewhere in eastern Europe.

"We renew our call for the administration to impose the toughest possible sanctions against Russia, provide long-requested weapons to Ukraine, and bolster further NATO preparedness in eastern Europe."
