Cassidy Announces Updated Flood Insurance Maps

Today, Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) announced that the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is continuing to implement the Grimm-Cassidy Substitute Amendment to the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014. FEMA announced more Louisiana parishes are expected to receive preliminary or revised flood map updates in the coming months:

Parish Expected issuance

St. Bernard Parish December 2014

St. Mary Parish December 2014

Jefferson Parish November 2014

Lafayette Parish November 2014

In January, Dr. Cassidy and Majority Whip Steve Scalise urged FEMA to properly account for all flood protection features that mitigate risk in Jefferson Parish when developing the final flood insurance rate map.

FEMA previously announced they would be issuing revised preliminary flood maps in Grant, Jefferson, Lafayette, Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes through November, 2014. Natchitoches Parish was issued a revised-preliminary map in August.

Dr. Cassidy offered the following statement:

"Flood insurance rates must be fair and reflect Louisiana families' actual flood risk. Incorporating local recommendations when issuing rate maps will help accomplish this. FEMA is taking steps to implement the Grimm-Cassidy Amendment to the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act, but there is still more work to be done to make sure its implementation is accurate and fair."
