Today, Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) commented on an agreement reached that will require the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to stop processing the Midla Pipeline abandonment application.
The agreement states Midla will be building a new 12" line from Winnsboro to Natchez that will serve Jonesville, Sicily Island, Clayton, and Vidalia. Midla will also pay, with a few exceptions, for the transition costs of putting those not served by the new Natchez Line on some other form of gas service or propane.
Dr. Cassidy issued the following statement:
"If the Midla pipeline was abandoned, the price of gas and electricity could soar for thousands of families in Louisiana. An agreement was reached so the Midla Pipeline will not be abandoned. I am glad to have worked with Senator Vitter who helped push for greater transparency on the safety of the pipeline before any irreversible action was taken. Now we must continue to monitor the pipeline going forward to ensure Louisianans are protected from future rate increases."
