Horsford And Vice President Biden Meet With Local Small Business Owners To Discuss Need To Raise Minimum Wage

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) and Vice President Joe Biden met with a group of Las Vegas small business owners for a roundtable discussion on the need to raise the federal minimum wage from the current rate of $7.25 to $10.10.

"I support Vice President Biden's push to raise the minimum wage; he is a true champion for America's working families," Horsford said. "For far too long, our nation's workers have seen their wages stagnate. It's time to give 25 million hard-working Americans a raise so they can provide for their families. This is especially true for women, who make up nearly two-thirds of minimum wage workers. Many are the sole providers for their households and the current minimum wage is simply not enough to support a family; a woman working full-time for a full year at $7.25 per hour earns just $14,500, which is $4,000 below the poverty line for a family of three. Paying employees a livable wage is good for businesses and good for our economy. I will continue to fight for a vote in Congress to raise the minimum wage."
