Gwen Moore Statement on President's Address on ISIL

Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4) released the following statement regarding the President's primetime address on ISIL:

"I support President Obama and commend his leadership but I have yet to hear a strategy that embraces political, economic, and diplomatic components in addressing the ISIL threat.

"A modern terror group like ISIL requires a modern anti-terrorism strategy built on a foundation of international cooperation. Such a strategy must include a global diplomatic effort combined with a focus on fostering political compromise within the Iraqi government and ending Syria's bloody civil war.

"There is certainly a need for an escalated military response against this mounting threat but such a response requires congressional oversight. As we move forward, it is vital that the Administration continue to build strong congressional support in confronting ISIL in the region."
