Klobuchar, Franken, Nolan Announce Over $5 Million to Improve Infrastructure at Chisholm-Hibbing Airport

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken along with Representative Rick Nolan today announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded the Chisholm-Hibbing Airport $5,050,521 for infrastructure improvements.

"Expanding the Chisholm-Hibbing Airport means expanding the airport's capacity to bring business to the area," Klobuchar said. "This support will promote economic development in Northeast Minnesota and allow the airport to provide more travelers with safe, reliable air service to and from the region."

"By investing in the Range Regional Airport in Hibbing, we're spurring economic development on the Range and bolstering our regional transportation network," Franken said. "These critical upgrades will improve airport safety, help create jobs, and go a long way towards making sure that Minnesota's aviation infrastructure system is world class."

"As both a national and global transportation link, Range Regional Airport could not be more vital to our mining and manufacturing operations, as well as to tourism here in the northland," Nolan said. "This sizeable grant means more good, middle class jobs here in the region. As a member of the House Transportation Committee, I'll continue to do everything in my power to bring home the resources we need to expand regional airport services and make them safer and more convenient for everyone."

Chisholm-Hibbing Airport will be receiving $3,596,049 in discretionary funds from the Department of Transportation and $1,454,472 in entitlement grants through the Airport Improvement Program -- a total of $5,050,521. These funds will be used to expand the terminal building at the airport and make other improvements.
