Horsford Announces $2.2 Million JAG Grant for Nevada Department of Public Safety

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) announced that the Department of Justice has awarded $2,215,059 to the Nevada Department of Public Safety. The grant is funded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG). The Nevada Department of Public Safety will use the JAG grant to support programs considered effective to achieve a higher impact toward crime reduction, prevention, and control, as well as those programs that improve functioning of the justice system.

"This JAG grant will provide Nevada with the resources we need to improve our justice system," Horsford said. "It is a wide-reaching effort that will cover a number of critical areas, including law enforcement programs and prevention and education initiatives. I will continue to fight to bring these federal funds to our community."

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local government, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice.
