Horsford Urges Nevada Department Of Health And Human Services To Address Delayed Processing Of Snap Benefits

Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) was informed that the Department of Agriculture sent a letter warning the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services that it is out of compliance with its administration of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Nevada has failed to meet the required 30-day processing deadline for SNAP beneficiaries (7 days for homeless individuals).

"This report is deeply troubling; the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services must act immediately to address the delay in processing SNAP benefits," Horsford said. "Thousands of Nevadans rely on SNAP support to keep their heads above water. Those who are struggling to find work and feed their families cannot afford to wait this long to receive benefits. I urge the Department to act as quickly as possible to fix these unacceptable delays."

If Nevada does not take corrective action within 30 days, the Department of Agriculture will issue a final warning letter before withholding federal funds for the administrative expenses of SNAP in the state.
