Today, Representative Steven Horsford (NV-4) released the following statement regarding his vote to authorize the Secretary of Defense to train and equip appropriately vetted elements of the Syrian opposition:
"As I said previously, I support the strategy to act in coordination with our allies to disrupt, degrade, and destroy ISIS. Part of the strategy is to provide appropriately vetted groups with training and support. Today's authorization will enable the United States to form an international coalition; it is a critical component of the plan to prevent ISIS from becoming a larger threat to the United States, our interests, and our allies.
"Combat boots on the ground are out of the question for the United States. What Congress voted on today is not an authorization for war; our nation is war weary. After a series of briefings it became clear: in order for others to fight ISIS on their own turf, this authority is a necessary component of a broader strategy of air strikes by the United States."
