Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence Endorses Anthony Brown for Governor

Today the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence endorsed Anthony Brown for governor, praising his strong record of working to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and domestic abusers.

"Anthony Brown is a proven leader in the fight to keep Maryland families safe from gun violence," said Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. "Anthony's record of working to keep assault weapons off our streets and guns out of the hands of criminals and domestic abusers stands in sharp contrast to Larry Hogan's dangerous pro-gun agenda. Maryland families deserve to know the promises Larry Hogan made to earn the NRA's endorsement, and it's time for him to come clean."

"Together, we'll protect the progress we've made in taking assault weapons and high-capacity magazines off our streets while enforcing common sense background checks to keep handguns away from criminals. In this election, Maryland voters have a clear choice between continuing our efforts to prevent gun violence or following Larry Hogan's dangerous agenda to weaken our gun-safety laws. I've made my position on reducing gun violence crystal clear, I hope Mr. Hogan will release his NRA questionnaire so voters can find out what he actually believes on this critical issue."

Brown worked to pass the Firearm Safety Act which banned assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and instituted common-sense background checks to keep criminals from obtaining handguns. Brown has committed to fully enforcing and strengthening this law as Governor. Brown has also been a leader in the fight to require judges to remove guns from domestic abusers after a permanent protective order is issued against them. Recently, Brown published an op-ed in the Baltimore Sun specifically detailing how he would protect and work to strengthen Maryland's life-saving gun safety law as governor.

Brown stands in sharp contrast to Larry Hogan who opposed the Firearm Safety Act and has been endorsed by the NRA. While claiming he won't make gun safety an issue, Hogan has been caught by the Washington Post and WBAL making secret, backroom promises to pro-gun activists detailing how he'll weaken Maryland's gun safety laws if elected governor.

The Brady Campaign also renewed its call for Hogan to publicly release the NRA questionnaire that earned him an endorsement and A- rating from the gun lobby. The Brady Campaign joined with the Baltimore Sun, Frederick News-Post and Maryland Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense who have all called on Hogan to release the promises he put in writing to the NRA and explain what he's telling pro-gun extremists behind closed doors.
