Van Hollen Discusses GOP Gridlock on MSNBC

Statement

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen appeared on MSNBC's Ronan Farrow Daily to discuss gridlock and GOP partisanship. Below are excerpts from the interview:

"Well, Ronan, you've seen over the last four years, the President has been seeking a partner in Congress who is willing to compromise. There have been numerous occasions where the President has sought the middle ground, whether it's on budget issues, whether it's on immigration. And immigration's a really good example. The President's exactly right. On a bipartisan basis, the Senate passed comprehensive immigration reform over a year ago. We haven't even gotten a vote on that in the House today. And Mitt Romney is just dead wrong on this issue because the reality is that the incoming class of Republican Members are even less compromising than some of their predecessors who didn't want to move at all on things like immigration reform."

"The national Republican Party understands full well that their anti-immigration platform was disastrous for them in the last presidential election. Which is why Mitt Romney is saying that they need to get it done… We haven't had a vote on that. We haven't had a vote, Ronan, on increasing the minimum wage in this country, which is very popular. We haven't had a vote on equal pay for equal work for women."
