Van Hollen Announces $9.8 Million Grant for National 4-H Council in Chevy Chase

Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen today announced that the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded a $9.8 million grant to National 4-H Council in Chevy Chase, MD for youth mentorship programs that aim to provide after-school activities to at-risk youth.

"The 4-H Council does exceptional work helping our young people make positive and productive life choices," said Congressman Van Hollen. "This grant will help National 4-H Council reach even more of our youth, helping them take advantage of leadership opportunities, gain practical new skills, and foster positive relationships with new mentors."

The grant will enable National 4-H Council, in partnership with land-grant universities and the Cooperative Extension System, to strengthen and expand mentoring programs through three 4-H Programs of Distinction: 4-H Mentoring: Youth & Families with Promise, 4-H Tech Wizards, and 4-H Living Interactive Family Education. All incorporate positive youth development core principles to improve the well-being of at-risk youth ages 5-17.
