MOTORCYCLE EDUCATION AND AWARENESS MONTH

WHEREAS, it is that time of year when motorcycle riders will be traveling North Dakota's streets and highways, and automobile operators and motorcyclists need to increase their awareness of one another on the road; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Instruction, the Department of Transportation and American Bikers Aiming Toward Education (ABATE) of North Dakota actively provide motorcycle safety activities throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, North Dakota motorists should have a special awareness of the vulnerability of motorcyclists and make certain that they have ample highway access and space; and

WHEREAS, all citizens are encouraged to make motorcycling a safe activity in North Dakota through awareness and education programs aimed at both young and adult motorcycle operators, as well as other vehicle operators; and

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim May 2005, MOTORCYCLE EDUCATION AND AWARENESS MONTH in the state of North Dakota.
