TEACH CHILDREN TO SAVE DAY

APRIL 26, 2005

WHEREAS, North Dakota bankers provide hundreds of consumer education programs across the state every year; and
WHEREAS, these consumer education activities reach more than 4,000 students annually; and

WHEREAS, basic education in financial and economic studies can help form a lifetime of habits devoted to saving, wise use of credit and fiscal responsibility; and

WHEREAS, reports state that 50 percent of kids nationwide have never been taught about money by their parents nor have they received training on the facts of money in school; and

WHEREAS, financial literacy will help eliminate the problems of bankruptcy and lifetimes of indebtedness; and

WHEREAS, the North Dakota Bankers Association is joining with schools and banks throughout the state to raise awareness about the importance of financial literacy education in our homes and schools; and

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim April 26, 2005, TEACH CHILDREN TO SAVE DAY in the state of North Dakota.
