YOUTH TEMPERANCE EDUCATION WEEK

APRIL 24-30, 2005

WHEREAS, the widespread abuse of alcohol and drugs has created economic and social problems resulting in the destruction of family relationships and costs to the public; and

WHEREAS, alcohol and drug abuse awareness and education is needed to inform young people and opinion-makers about the dangers of such abuse; and

WHEREAS, civic, educational and social organizations across the state are working to keep our youth drug and alcohol free through education programs and information campaigns designed to promote abstinence; and

WHEREAS, the Woman's Christian Temperance Union is partnering with schools, churches and libraries in the state to provide materials and activities to educate our youth on the benefits of a drug- and alcohol-free lifestyle; and

WHEREAS, our youth are our greatest resource, and by keeping them drug and alcohol free, we are guiding them toward a future of hope and opportunity; and

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim April 24-30, 2005, YOUTH TEMPERANCE EDUCATION WEEK in the state of North Dakota.
