Zeldin Reissues Call for President Obama to Suspend West Africa Travel to US

Statement

Senator Lee Zeldin, Republican and Conservative Party candidate for Congress in New York's First Congressional District, today reissued his call for President Obama to suspend West Africa Travel to the United States.

"We have a serious crisis on our hands. Ebola continues to rapidly spread and become a global threat, as Americans are now becoming infected. We must act swiftly and much more proactively to prevent an outbreak here in the United States. The first step is to stop travel to and from these infected countries.

Just this week, it was confirmed that two nurses contracted Ebola in Dallas, Texas while treating Thomas Duncan, who has since passed away from the virus. This raises serious questions as to the ability of the CDC and hospitals across the country to protect health care professionals and citizens if a rapid spread of the virus were to continue here in the United States.

The American public deserves to know that everything in the federal government's power and the CDC's power that can be done is being done to prevent an outbreak. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the case. The government's response has been far from re-assuring to Americans.

We must immediately suspend travel between the United States and West African countries. Our government must also act now to put maximum procedures in place to protect Americans from further spread of this virus."
