Labrador Record Applauded by Business and Taxpayer Groups

Rep. Raúl Labrador has been honored by the National Federation of Independent Business and the National Taxpayers Union for his support of business and fiscal responsibility.

Labrador was named a "Guardian of Small Business" by NFIB for his 100 percent voting record on 10 issues tracked by the group in 2013 and 2014. Among those was his support of delaying the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act by one year; approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline without a presidential permit; and legal sanctions aimed at reducing frivolous lawsuits.

He received the "Taxpayers' Friend Award" from the National Taxpayers Union for his voting record in 2013. NTU scored Labrador at 87 percent based on 253 votes on appropriations bills, authorization bills, budget target resolutions, tax bills, amendments and procedural votes that could affect the burden on taxpayers.

"It's an honor to be recognized by groups advocating private-sector solutions to achieve a stronger economy," Labrador said. "Small business, individual initiative and fiscal restraint are the most vital drivers of the American economy and I will continue to support those values every time I cast a vote."

The awards came in mid-September. Lawmakers who voted favorably on small-business issues at least 70 percent of the time were eligible for the "Guardian of Small Business" award. The threshold for the "Taxpayers' Friend Award" was 83 percent in the House.
