Representative Steve Daines released the following statement regarding President Obama's issuance of a major disaster declaration for the State of Montana to help communities repair damages from late-August storms:
"I appreciate that the President has recognized the burden these storms have placed on Montana communities and honored Governor Bullock's request for assistance. This declaration will provide affected communities with needed resources to repair the damages from the storms and subsequent flooding."
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the declaration late last night for Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and Blaine, Carter, Musselshell, Petroleum and Valley Counties.
Daines had previously pressed the White House to honor the State of Montana's request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for the affected areas.
Severe flooding resulting from several bands of storms from August 21 to August 25 caused significant damage in these areas.
