Klobuchar, Franken, Walz Joint Statement on VA Inspector General's Investigation Into Death of Minnesota Veteran Jordan Buisman

U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and Representative Tim Walz today released the following joint statement in response to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Inspector General's investigation into allegations of falsified records surrounding the death of Minnesota veteran Jordan Buisman. In letters to the lawmakers, Acting VA Inspector General Richard Griffin wrote that the investigation found no evidence of falsified or manipulated records in this case.

"Regardless of the IG's findings, the broader and more important issue for the health, well-being, and peace of mind of veterans and their families is the question of access to timely care, especially in life threatening situations," the lawmakers said. "Jordan was forced to wait too long to get the care he needed. The VA can and must do better, and we will continue working to hold them accountable and improve care for our veterans. We look forward to the completion of the full IG investigation into the Minneapolis VA and to discussing the results with Secretary McDonald and the entire Minnesota delegation to ensure reforms are being made to improve access to care."

On September 30, Minnesota's entire congressional delegation requested a meeting with VA Secretary Robert McDonald to discuss recent reports of falsified records at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.
