Joni Ernst Statement on President's New Plan to Close Guantanamo Bay

Today, mother, soldier, leader, and Iowa's Republican nominee for U.S. Senate Joni Ernst, released the following statement following new reports this morning that President Obama may attempt to circumvent Congress to close the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay:

"For six years, President Obama and Congressman Braley have tried -- and failed -- to close Guantanamo Bay and bring terrorists to the U.S. mainland. One plan that Congressman Braley supported would even have brought some of the world's most dangerous terrorists to within miles of Iowa's border. Despite Congressman Braley's votes, Congress has so far been able to stop this ill-advised plan. However, I am very concerned by today's reports that President Obama might act unilaterally to close Guantanamo Bay and bring many of the world's most dangerous terrorists to our mainland. Congressman Braley has voted six times to back President Obama's plans to close Guantanamo Bay, but he needs to stand up today and publicly tell the President that such an abuse of power would be a grave mistake. Under no circumstances should we be bringing the world's worst terrorists into the United States."
