Today, Gary vowed to continue fighting to protect Medicare and Medicaid 49 years after both programs were signed into law. #TeamPeters released a video featuring Michiganders sharing why it is so important to protect Medicare and Medicaid for middle class families and those aspiring to get there.
Gary has always fought to protect Medicare and Medicaid in Washington. He stood up against extreme budget cuts proposed by House Republicans that would have gutted the programs and made seniors pay thousands more for their health care. Michigan has more than 1,700,000 seniors on Medicare and more than 1,548,000 Medicaid beneficiaries. Gary is committed to strengthening Medicare and Medicaid for those currently benefitting from the programs and future generations who hope to retire with dignity.
Gary said, "My mother relies on Medicare for her medical services -- it's something that she counts on to be there for her and my family counts on. And I know it's not just my mother, it's seniors all across Michigan who rely on Medicare as well as seniors across our country. To me, Medicare is a sacred promise to our seniors. We need to make sure that it's there, it provides for their needs, and we've got to make sure that Medicare is there not just for seniors today, but for future generations as well. That's why I'm committed to making sure that Medicare continues to be strong, and always there when you need it."
