Elise Stefanik Released the Following Statement Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Passage of the Violence Against Women Act

21st District Congressional candidate Elise Stefanik today released the following statement marking this week's 20th anniversary of the signing into law of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA):

"This week marks the 20th anniversary of landmark legislation I am proud to support -- the Violence Against Women Act. Unfortunately, horrific crimes against women and vulnerable children continue to surface. This has no place in our society. Victims of domestic violence must be assured that those who commit these violent acts will be held accountable, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

"As a woman, I will be an advocate for legislation protecting women's safety and well-being. Since it's 1994 passage, this law has protected countless lives. It has helped to train law enforcement officials, provided funding for women's shelters and support programs, and has allowed for greater coordination between states to track and bring to justice those who commit these unthinkable acts of violence. This law, including the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, which was reauthorized along with VAWA last year, remains essential to protecting women."
