Today, Miller-Meeks for Congress releases "Put Iowans First," a biographical web video about how Dr. Miller-Meeks' upbringing has guided her vision for improving Iowa and fixing the dysfunctional mess in Washington.

Mariannette was the fourth of eight children. Her father enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after high school and her mother finished eighth grade. Mariannette left home at 16 because she wanted to become a doctor. She joined the U.S. Army at 18 and served honorably for 24 years. Mariannette became the first person in her family to graduate from college, let alone medical school.

"I understand where I came from and know that we must preserve the opportunities that are uniquely American that allow anyone -- no matter their background -- the ability to achieve their dream," said Dr. Miller-Meeks. "Right now the dysfunctional mess in Washington gets in the way of so many who are trying to get ahead."

"Career politicians in Washington are putting special interests first instead of the people they're supposed to represent. It's time we put Iowans first and work together so we can increase take-home pay, implement better health care reforms, and restore accountability to Washington."
