Jeanne Shaheen Visits Peterborough and Keene On "A Senator New Hampshire Women Can Trust Tour"

Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen continued her "A Senator New Hampshire Women Can Trust Tour" with events in Peterborough and Keene, where she discussed what is at stake for women in this November's election.

"I have spent my entire career fighting for women's reproductive rights because I believe women should be trusted to make private medical decisions in consultation with their families and their healthcare provider, not with the government, not with their employer, and not with Scott Brown," said Shaheen.

"New Hampshire women can't trust Scott Brown to stand up for their reproductive rights. He co-sponsored and voted for the Blunt Amendment which would allow employers to deny women employees insurance coverage not only for birth control, but also for preventive health care like mammograms. He supports the recent Supreme Court decision that would allow certain employers to deny women coverage for birth control. And he even twice backed a bill to force women to look at color pictures of fetuses before they terminated a pregnancy. Scott Brown's record is just further proof that New Hampshire women can't trust him," added Shaheen.

With each day, New Hampshire women are seeing more and more that they can't trust Scott Brown to stand up for reproductive healthcare rights. When he was in Massachusetts, Brown twice backed legislation that would have forced women to view color photographs of fetuses before getting terminating a pregnancy, and as a U.S. Senator, he cosponsored the Blunt Amendment, which would allow an employer to deny women coverage for contraception and mammograms. This summer he also supported the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby decision, which similarly allows certain employers to deny women access to contraception. Brown also repeatedly voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would provide equal pay protections for women in the workplace.

For more than two decades, Jeanne Shaheen has worked to make a difference for New Hampshire women. As Governor, she signed into law bipartisan legislation guaranteeing insurance coverage for contraception and in the Senate, she led the fight against the Blunt Amendment and helped introduce legislation to reverse the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby decision. Shaheen also cosponsored the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act to combat pay discrimination and as Governor, she signed legislation into law, which strengthened New Hampshire's equal pay protections.
