Jeanne Shaheen Continues "A Senator New Hampshire Women Can Trust Tour" In Derry

Today, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen continued her "A Senator New Hampshire Women Can Trust Tour" at Creative Chef Kitchens in Derry, where she discussed what is at stake for New Hampshire women in the November election. Shaheen contrasted her record of fighting for women's reproductive rights with Scott Brown's anti-choice record, specifically legislation he twice cosponsored in Massachusetts that would force women to view color photographs of fetuses before ending a pregnancy. The Shaheen campaign also released a new ad this morning highlighting Brown's anti-choice record.

"I have spent my entire career fighting for women's reproductive rights and access to a full range of health services, and this November voters have a real choice to make. I believe women should be trusted to make private medical decisions in consultation with their families and their healthcare provider, not with the government, not with their employer and not with Scott Brown," said Shaheen.

"Scott Brown is not pro-choice and his record proves it. He co-sponsored and voted for the Blunt Amendment which would allow employers to deny women employees insurance coverage not only for birth control but also for preventive health care like mammograms. Brown supports the recent Supreme Court decision that would allow certain employers to deny women coverage for birth control. And he even twice backed a bill to force women to look at color pictures of fetuses before they terminated a pregnancy. That's not a pro-choice record."

Scott Brown's anti-choice record is only further proof that New Hampshire women can't trust him. In addition to his support for legislation that would roll back reproductive rights, Brown also repeatedly voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would strengthen equal pay protections to make sure women receive equal pay for equal work.

For more than two decades, Jeanne Shaheen has worked to make a difference for women in New Hampshire. As Governor, she signed into law bipartisan legislation guaranteeing insurance coverage for contraception and strengthened New Hampshire's equal pay protections. In the Senate, she led the fight against the Blunt Amendment and helped introduce legislation to reverse the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby decision. Shaheen also cosponsored the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act to combat pay discrimination.
