Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Cecile Richards Joins Jeanne Shaheen At Rally In Concord

Today, Cecile Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, joined New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen and State Senator Sylvia Larsen for a rally in Concord to highlight what is at stake for women in New Hampshire this November.

"I've spent my career fighting for women's health care and reproductive rights, and this November, we have decades of progress for women on the line," said Shaheen. "Scott Brown has voted to roll back that progress and supported almost every anti-choice initiative in front of him; he co-sponsored and voted for the Blunt Amendment that would let bosses make decisions about their female employees' health care, and this year, he applauded the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby decision. New Hampshire women can't trust Scott Brown to stand up for their reproductive rights."

Throughout her career, Jeanne Shaheen has been a leader on women's reproductive rights. As Governor, she signed into law bipartisan legislation that guaranteed insurance coverage for contraception. In the Senate, she helped introduce legislation to reverse the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby decision in order to protect women's access to birth control and contraception. She has also led the fight against the Blunt Amendment, which would allow employers to deny contraception or even mammogram coverage for their female employees.

While representing Massachusetts in the Senate, Scott Brown co-sponsored and voted for the Blunt Amendment, and this year, he spoke out in support of the Supreme Court's Hobby Lobby decision. Just last month, when the New Hampshire Republican Party added a "personhood" amendment to its platform, Brown, who is the leader of his party's 2014 ticket, stood on the sidelines and did nothing. A "personhood" amendment would ban abortion, even in cases of rape and incest, outlaw most common forms of contraception, and ban in-vitro fertilization.
