Hoyer Congratulates Fifth District School on National Blue Ribbon Recognition

Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) congratulated Robert Goddard French Immersion School in Prince George's County on being selected as a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School. Last December, Goddard French Immersion was recognized as a Maryland Blue Ribbon School and was invited by the U.S. Department of Education to apply for the national recognition.

"I am pleased to congratulate Robert Goddard French Immersion School on being one of ten schools in Maryland selected for this prestigious award," said Congressman Hoyer. "I had the opportunity to visit Goddard French Immersion earlier this year where I saw firsthand their commitment to providing an exceptional education to students. Students at Goddard French Immersion continue to obtain advanced scores in math and reading, while many of its nearly 600 students have received top honors in programs such as Final Frontiers, National Science Bowl, and the Prince George's County Instrumental Music Assessment. I applaud the teachers, students, staff, and parents for their hard work that made this achievement possible and for the outstanding contributions they make every day to keep Maryland schools like Goddard French Immersion among the best in the nation."

Goddard French Immersion will be recognized at a ceremony in Washington, DC in November and will receive a National Blue Ribbon Schools plaque and a flag for the school's entrance to indicate its status. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was founded in 1982 to recognize our nation's top schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps. Since the program's establishment, more than 7,500 schools across the country have been presented with this award.
