Governor Hassan's Statement on Decline in Poverty Rate

Press Release

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement on the 1.3 percent decline in New Hampshire's poverty rate from 2012 to 2013, the second-largest decrease in the nation:

"The decline in our poverty rate is a positive sign that New Hampshire's economy continues to move in the right direction, but we know there are still those struggling to make ends meet and we need to continue working together to help innovative businesses create jobs, expand middle class opportunity and keep our economy moving forward. Our bipartisan health care expansion plan, job training programs and efforts to freeze in-state tuition at our colleges and universities were steps in the right direction, but we must keep helping our families compete by restoring and improving New Hampshire's minimum wage, providing job training, and continuing to work to make higher education more affordable."
