3 Foreign Policy Reasons Why We Need New Leadership in Washington, Part 3

Senator-Soldier Lee Zeldin, Republican and Conservative Party candidate for Congress in New York's First Congressional District, today released the third of a three part series of foreign policy statements on why we need new leadership in Washington:

"There are many individuals, groups and countries around the world that do not have America's best interest at heart. The United States must not be apologetic for the great nation we are nor can we misunderstand that our enemies do not respect weakness; they only respect strength.

We have some very strong allies around the world. Israel being our greatest ally is a nation that remains our key strategic partner in the Middle East. Peace and stability in that fragile region of the world starts with Israel. A threat to Israel in many ways should be looked at as a threat to the United States. We share the same enemies who want to destroy the way of life for peaceful citizens of both great nations.

One way to help protect Israel is by making sure, for example, that Iran doesn't develop nuclear capabilities. It is our duty to do all that we can to assist. This includes increasing U.S. sanctions on Iran, not weakening them. A nuclear Iran must never become a reality. Another example is in the administration's rhetoric with Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. Recently urging patience on the part of Israelis while praising the leadership of the Palestinian Authority, the Obama Administration was not helping our friends in Israel defeat Hamas. It actually undermines Israel's efforts.

Consistency is a leadership trait that must be always demonstrated in America's foreign policy. Follow through is also vitally important. When the President chooses to say that there will be consequences for an aggressive action then there must be consequences. Otherwise, the President should not threaten consequences in the first place.

All throughout the world, there are many examples of growing threats that require bold, consistent leadership and follow through from Washington. We cannot kiss the rings of leaders of countries that hate America and our way of life. Instead, we must build stronger relations with our allies, improve our intelligence network, and improve our warfighting capabilities, as a strong deterent from war.

We need new leadership in Washington and a foreign policy that recognizes peace through strength, consistency and follow through, and doesn't pander to our enemies."
