U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement in recognition of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, hosted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) tomorrow, September 27, 2014:
"Too often dangerous prescription drugs fall into the wrong hands, feeding addictions and even leading to injury or death. I hope all Texans will do their part to help stop prescription drug abuse by participating in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day events in their local communities."
Earlier this month, the DEA issued a final rule implementing a bipartisan law authored by U.S. Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) to expand prescription drug take-back programs. The Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act provides consumers with more safe and responsible ways to dispose of unused prescription medications and controlled substances. The law expands options for individuals as well as long-term care facilities, and promotes the development and expansion of prescription drug take-back programs.
