Lankford: As Predicted, Obamacare Proving Too Much for CMS, HHS to Handle

Representative James Lankford (R-Okla.) issued the following statement today after the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform's full-committee hearing to examine failures in Obamacare's security, accountability and transparency, particularly regarding the fiasco earlier this year with the Obamacare website, healthcare.gov:

"Poor management, inefficient operation and security issues continue to plague healthcare.gov, and the website's construction and bug fixes have already reportedly cost American taxpayers an estimated $840 million. In today's hearing, testimony proved that website construction isn't the main issue; transparency is the greatest issue. Because of the many security and infrastructure problems with healthcare.gov, some of which were uncovered during hearings in the Oversight subcommittee I chair, CMS has allowed the Medicare audit process to continue to falter.

"All of these issues combined drive quality healthcare personnel out of the industry and cause the American people to lose trust in our system. As the federal government stumbles through the implementation of Obamacare, American families and businesses bear the brunt of higher costs, insecure personal information, interruptions in critical care and higher taxes. There is no shame in admitting health care is too great a task for the federal government to run. I authored the Health Care Compact specifically to allow states like Oklahoma--that want to run their own health care--to use their own federal funds to run it their way. States that want their mismanaged Obamacare, can keep their Obamacare."
